Vancouver Island, BC

My journey began in 2022 when I earned my Occupational Scuba Diver certification at Divesafe International. With an initial aspiration to enter the underwater film industry in Canada, I sought to acquire the skills necessary to capture the beauty of marine life on film in the cold Pacific Northwest. However, I quickly discovered that the local diving industry offers a wealth of diverse and meaningful opportunities beyond my original goal.

Diverse Professional Experiences

During this new career, I have had the privilege of engaging in various roles that have significantly enriched my professional development in diving:

  • Herring Spawn Surveys: Collaborating with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) to monitor herring populations and contribute to marine research.

  • Scientific Diving: Participating in projects that advance our understanding of marine ecosystems and support conservation efforts.

  • Conservation Initiatives: Involvement in kelp restoration and eelgrass transplanting, both of which are vital for maintaining healthy underwater habitats.

  • Ocean Cleanup Efforts: Undertaking challenging yet rewarding tasks focused on cleaning our oceans and promoting environmental stewardship.

Each of these experiences has not only enhanced my skills but has also deepened my commitment to marine conservation in British Columbia.

Advancing My Career

I am incredibly grateful to Divesafe International, the school where I first earned my commercial diver certification. Their unwavering support has allowed me to grow into a supervisory role, and I truly enjoy the opportunity to assist new students. A special thank you to Reggie Latham and Ryan Miller for their amazing guidance since day one. It’s a pleasure to share my passion and experiences from the commercial diving and underwater filmmaking worlds with the next generation of divers.

Encouragement to Explore the Diving Industry

I feel a profound sense of pride and gratitude for my ability to make a living in this field while residing on the picturesque Vancouver Island. For those considering a career in commercial diving, I wholeheartedly encourage you to explore this path. The industry is rich with opportunities and offers a chance to make a meaningful impact on the environment.
